Helsinki University of Technology passed the re-audit
FINHEEC decided in its meeting on 29 January 2008, based on the proposal of the audit group and the audit
report, that the QA system of Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) had material shortcomings in relation to
the audit criteria. The decision required a re-audit to be carried out.
The re-audit focused on three auditing targets as provided in the FINHEEC Audit Manual 2008–2011:
– the comprehensiveness and effectiveness of the QA procedures and structures in relation to interaction with
and impact on society as well as regional development co-operation
– monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement of the QA system
– the QA system as a whole
The purpose of the re-audit is to assess the HEI’s progress in the development of its quality assurance system in the areas defined as development needs. The stage of development in the target areas of the re-audit must meet the criteria of “Developing”. The re-audit was based on the auditing material submitted by TKK in advance and the visit made by the reaudit group to TKK on 10 March 2010.
The QA system of TKK has been extended to cover interaction with and impact on society in relation to all of
its core activities. TKK’s QA system is, in this respect, at the developing stage. Reaching the advanced stage, TKK is
required to utilise the evaluation results in relation to interaction with and impact on society as well as regional
development co-operation in a systematic and continuous manner to develop the HEI as well as to describe the
process and communicate it to stakeholders.
TKK has reformed the operative models of its QA system in order to monitor and evaluate its operative processes
with uniform methods according to the principle of continuous improvement. The development takes place
according to plan and is documented. The monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement of the QA system
is at the developing stage. To reach the advanced stage, TKK is required to show more extensive evidence of the
monitoring and evaluation of the QA system and particularly of its effectiveness.
The QA system of TKK covers most of its activities. There is clear evidence of the effectiveness of the QA system on the development of the activities and the QA procedures constitute a fairly well-functioning whole. TKK’s QA system is in this respect at the developing stage.
In its meeting on 27 May 2010, FINHEEC decided, on the basis of the proposal of the re-audit group, that the
quality assurance system of Helsinki University of Technology meets the criteria set for quality assurance systems as
a whole and for the quality assurance of its basic tasks.
